‘Alabanza’ means to raise this thing to God’s face and sing “praise to this”. Alabanzas is a memoriam piece that symbolises a congregation singing praise. The thematic material is heard throughout the work with little variation in order to depict the reiterated praises. As the music progresses, the emotions rise up, portrayed by the rhythmic character of the later sections, until the music reaches a moment of ecstasy six bars from the end. There is a sense of resolution where the great emotional state gives way to a peaceful state of mind.
